Serious About Our Students

Founded in 2003, the Foundation for Glendora Unified Schools (FGUS) recently held a local auction in an effort to raise funds for their Support Our Students campaign. The event, hosted at Glendora’s new T. Phillips Restaurant, was deemed a “huge success” when funds raised reached over $100,000, bringing FGUS to meet 40% of their total goal to raise $100 per student within the Glendora Unified School District.

The auction featured both a live and silent portion, with local supporters including T.Phillips Alehouse and Grill, Lorisa Interiors and Gardens, Andrews, Inc., Da Avere and Fiorina. Items auctioned included vacation getaways to Montana and Catalina; Sports tickets to see the USC Trojans, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and the L.A Dodgers; Gift packages from local and other supporters, and perhaps the night’s most desired item, a Yamaha guitar signed by Van Halen’s own Michael Anthony.

I got the opportunity to catch up with Susan Leech of FGUS, and she informed me that a bidding war erupted over the guitar. When it sold for $50,000, Michael Anthony was delighted to donate another and overjoy both the high bidders, as well as FGUS. Susan put it as simply as “WOW!!!”.

Congratulations to FGUS on a job well done! Your efforts do not go unnoticed (I see those SOS signs EVERYWHERE!). Good Luck with the continuation of your Support Our Students campaign. I truly hope that you meet you total goal!
